my work in art education

I am an art educator, pedagogical director, and I conduct free workshops focused on theater, masks, and pyrophagy.

After graduating as an actor from Teatro Escola Macunaíma, the need to deepen my theatrical knowledge in art education was so evident that I pursued a degree in Theater Arts Education (Licenciatura em Arte-Teatro) at the Instituto de Artes da Unesp.

During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to intern with 6th to 9th-grade art students at Colégio São Luis and with adults and teenagers at Teatro Escola Macunaíma—where I also explored a directorial approach that could be technical, artistic, and pedagogical.

After graduation, I developed free workshops in the field of pyrophagy, such as Fire Dance and Fire Manipulation; expressive masks, with the Expressive Mask-Making Workshop; and theatrical practices investigated through the research of the rito-manifesto, such as the workshops O Cor(p)o Elétrico and Cartografia de Encantaria: processos de criação através do Tarô.

I have also worked with technical theater education, particularly at Escola Recriarte starting in 2024, teaching the subjects World Theater History, Brazilian Theater History, and Production and Ethics.

academic research

The Rito-Manifesto

Rafael Abrahão holds a degree in Theater Arts from the Institute of Arts at UNESP. In his graduation thesis, advised by Vinícius Torres Machado, he researched the Rito-Manifesto, a line of work developed by Santa Companhia de Teatro, born from Oswald de Andrade’s Anthropophagy and the writing of the play Cora Primavera. The work investigates the Philosophy of Theater, Theater Aesthetics, and Theater Semiotics, taking Theater itself as the foundation of the study and drawing connections with the Company’s core principles: Ritual, Manifesto, and Celebration. To support the argumentation, the work relates theorists such as Antonin Artaud, Eleonora Fabião, Jorge Dubatti, Pedro Vicente, Peter Brook, Rancière, among others, to the work developed by Santa Companhia de Teatro.

Devoured Oswald: How and Why Anthropophagy through History and Aesthetics in Oswald de Andrade

During his undergraduate studies in Theater Arts, Rafael Abrahão carried out a Scientific Research project supervised by Carminda Mendes André and Vinícius Torres Machado. The aim was to investigate how and why anthropophagy, through History and Aesthetics, is present in Oswald de Andrade’s work. The study explores ritual anthropophagy, cultural anthropophagy, and Oswaldian cosmology.
